Workshop Description

nspired by the Surrealist technique of “automatic drawing,” this workshop focuses on depicting emotions and memory as abstract imagery. Using traditional drawing tools, participants will respond to various prompts throughout the workshop to explore how their subconscious influences their mark making. All levels of experience are welcome. Led by: Aneesa Shami Zizzo When: Thursday, December 15th Time: 5:30 pm - 7 pm PST Suggested Materials: -Sketchbook, artist journal or loose leaf paper -Pens -Pencil and colored pencils -Chalk or oil pastels -Other drawing materials Objectives: -Explore different mark making techniques -Loosen up expectations for drawing -Get comfortable with abstract drawing About the Instructor: Aneesa Shami Zizzo is an artist and arts-based researcher using recycled materials to create fiber art. Her work references the sublime and world mythologies to evoke a sense of the collective unconscious within her imagery. Zizzo holds Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in both Fiber and Art History from the Kansas City Art Institute. She was the Textile Arts | Los Angeles AIR at Helms Design Center in 2018, and was a Fellow for the Mildred’s Lane Attention Labs: Order of the Third Bird in 2015. Zizzo's work has been exhibited nationally in galleries and museums. She recently created costumes for Planet City (2020), directed by Liam Young, which was commissioned for the NGV Triennial 2020 in Melbourne, Australia. Aneesa Shami Zizzo is also the director and co-owner of Studio 203, an artist-run space in Los Angeles featuring exhibitions, workshops and performances.

Cancellation Policy – Learn for Life by Able ARTS Work Please be advised that cancellations made up to 7 days before a scheduled class via the scheduling system and an email to learnforlife@ableartswork.org will be processed with a full refund. Cancellations made between 7 and 3 days before a scheduled class via the scheduling system and an email to learnforlife@ableartswork.org will receive a refund of 75% of the cost of the class. Cancellations made 3 days or less before a scheduled class will not receive any form of refund. If Learn for Life cancels a scheduled class for any reason, a notification will be emailed out and all scheduled participants will receive a full refund.
